Many neighborhoods in Mount Pleasant have their own neighborhood shopping centers, theaters, movie theaters, boat ramps and docks, athletic facilities, sports fields and. Mt. Pleasant features nine golf courses, two beaches (Sullivans Island and Isle of Palms). Known for being a pirates’ haven and originally inhabited by Indian tribes, this barrier island has seven miles of beaches bordering on the Atlantic Ocean with the Intracoastal Waterway on the backside.Isle of Palms is located only twenty minutes from Downtown Charleston and via the Isle of Palms connector only minutes to Mount Pleasant. The island is home to over 4,500 permanent residents and a popular vacation spot for many families.and vacation homes. The maritime forest and tidal marshes of Kiawah island are named in accordance to the first inhabitants the Kiawah indian tribe. This island is located 21 miles south of historic Charleston. The island is home to 1100 primary residents with many others living on the island in their secondary homes. Real estate varies from just under 1 million to about 7 million for homes. Luxury condominiums can be purchased for under $500,000. Kiawah Island has 10 miles of beaches with a variety of forest, marsh, lagoon, river and beach settings.
